Bronki Boosters

→ Cipla South Africa

Asthma affects over 145 million children globally — and while inhalers can be life-saving, most kids struggle with how (and when) to use them. Many feel embarrassed to even take them out in front of their friends. Bronki Boosters was designed to change that — starting with the inhaler itself.

We created a series of custom-designed inhaler casings, each one transforming a standard device into a superhero tool – bold, fun, and something to be proud of. These weren’t just accessories; they were confidence-giving objects that reimagined asthma care through a child’s eyes.

Around this physical product, we built a full story universe:

  • A comic book series and animated show introducing heroes Iggy and Wisp as they battle Skyron and his evil Constrictors — villains who steal the air from Earth
  • Instructional videos woven into the narrative, teaching kids correct inhaler technique through story
  • A gamified app that rewarded consistent, correct usage and deepened engagement

As Creative Director, I partnered closely with the client and a team of product and industrial designers to develop a proof of concept that was both inspiring for kids and practical enough to prototype for mass production. I also worked hands-on with illustrators, animators, and designers to ensure every touchpoint – from characters to content – was beautiful, meaningful, and rooted in empathy, clarity, and joy.

Because when you give a child the right tools, and a story they can see themselves in, they don’t just manage asthma – they rise above it.

Product Design

Bronki Boosters are designed as a standard inhaler casing, turning a medical device into an exciting and playful ‘toy’ that kids wanted to use.

The comic book introduced us to two ordinary kids that turned into superheroes when they used their magical Bronki Boosters, showing real kids that they could become powerful by doing the same.

The animated series dramatised our heroes’ battle for air, and mirrored the inhaler ritual prescribed by doctors in a fun way that would resonate with kids.
