Old Mutual is one of Africa’s oldest and most trusted financial institutions — but its digital presence told a different story. With dozens of disconnected websites and a fragmented visual identity, the customer experience was inconsistent, outdated, and in urgent need of transformation.
Our task: help shape a world-class, converged digital experience – one that could bring clarity to complexity and set Old Mutual up for long-term success.
Working alongside Old Mutual’s internal teams, product owners, and their external UX consultancy, we took on a massive role in bringing the brand to life online. We were responsible for the UI design, content direction, and most critically, the creation of a robust design system that could scale across the organisation.
As Design Director, I led the aesthetic vision for the digital brand – translating Old Mutual’s rebrand into a cohesive, modern digital expression. I guided a large team of UI and motion designers, working closely with the Experience Director and Content Director to ensure the work wasn’t just beautifully crafted, but strategically aligned and globally competitive.
From typography to transitions, interaction design to micro-interactions, we built a system designed for clarity, consistency, and momentum. A platform that empowered sprint teams to move faster – and brought unity to a brand now built for the future.
